My husband and I are thinking of getting one for our next dog. We both like to hunt grouse, pheasant, and duck.

Please let me know your thoughts if you have one, or ever had one. And post pictures if you have them.

We want to learn what we can about the breed, and the internet seems to be pretty limited on information.
We do have a couple breeders in our state.

Hopefully you guys can help with some more info.

Thanks in advance!

I've only met a few, but they seemed to be nice dogs. They were smaller in person than I expected them to be. Seem to be slightly less active than the German Wires or Shorthairs, but I could be wrong. I also saw a liver spinone that looked remarkably like a BIG griffon!

I've liked every one of them that I've ever met. I've met people that have shot over them and liked them as a personal gun dog.

Warning, that coat takes more care than you would expect. Usually broken wire coats are low maintenance, but the Griffon takes frequent grooming.

The griffons are the same size as our current dog. One of the breeders we spoke with has a dog like ours as well. So I'm not worried about the size.

As far as the coat, yes, I understand it will take some brushing and thinning out.

We were hoping to get over to the breeders today to look at the dogs, but he didnt call back.

If the breeder shows or field trials the dogs, he was probably out doing dog stuff!

Great! My golden rule for puppy shopping - do not fall in love with the puppies, fall in love with the parents. if you wouldnt want to take the parents home, choose another litter!

Actually the breeder doesn't have any puppies at this time. We are going to meet the adult dogs he has and watch them work. So we will be meeting the parents only this first trip.

If we like them, then we will go from there. He has 2 females, one is bred for a March litter, the other will be bred within the next month. So if we like one over the other we could put a deposit on a pup from either litter.
