Anyone familiar with the dog breed...... WIREHAIRED POINTING GRIFFON?

Well, we went to look at the parents today! We REALLY liked the stud they had. One of the females I liked alot, however she isnt up to breeder quality do to a hereditary eye defect. So we were kinda bummed about that. The other females he had were ok. One we liked alot more than the other.

We have another breeder that is close to us as well, and we are going to go look at his dogs sometime in the near future as well.

My uncle who lives in CO has two males. One adult and one puppy. They are not very tall, but are very stocky and have huge blocky heads. Gorgeous dogs, but they have to have a job.
Good luck, keep us updated!

No, we are not planning to breed.

The female is going to have surgery on her eye and he will sell her as a started dog. He was going to use her as a breeder until the eye defect showed itself.

However, we only want a male dog. We have never had good luck with females.

The male we get will be used as a hunting dog. IT was definitely have a job to do.

I'm surprised you say the males are stocky and short. Are they over weight? I haven't ever heard of that with this breed. Even from breeders.

That is one thing we do ask, because we do not like the body type of a springer. And when they are short and stocky that is what they look like. We saw two of the females yesterday that looked that way, thats why we didnt like them very much.

Ah, got it. I am also confused about the above comment re: huge blocky heads. Are you ceratin it is this breed? They arent huge, and shouldnt have huge blocky heads, by any stretch of the imagination.

Griffons are stockier and wider in the head than a German Short Hair Pointer. I don't consider them to be a really stocky breed, but they are heavier than some of the other pointer breeds and the thicker coat makes them visually heavier than they really are.

Sorry for any confusion, I was mainly comparing them to German Pointers. All I was saying is that they are shorter and stockier than I expected. If you think of a German Pointer as a great dane and a Griffon more as a mastiff. I'm not an expert by any means, it's just what I have observed of this breed.
Sorry for any confusion. I also want to add that if I had to choose a dog for hunting, a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon would be the breed I would choose

We really do like the breed. As mentioned we are going to look at another breeders dogs as well. Especially since they are so close to us. It would be silly for us to only see dogs from one breeder.
We haven't decided when to go over there, but I'm sure it will be within the next few weeks.
