Anyone feed their chickens chicken?

A few weeks ago we were cooking out and after we ate I threw a peice of steak to my dog and a chicken ran in front of my 80 pound rott lab mix and took it (brave chicken.) All of the chickens fought over it and the dog was just shocked like what happened to my steak. They are very amusing the chickens, the dogs and the cats.

We had friends over for a BBQ last night and I had to warn everyone NOT to set their plates on any low tables. One gal said the chickens seemed too shy to come over to where we were eating. I put a half eaten chicken leg down on a grass on a paperplate right in the middle of everyone. @ seconds later there was 4 chickens fighting over it under everyone's feet.

I have read in numerous places here on BYC where chickens are cannibals... even to live chickens?
(honest question, not being a smart-alek)

Herein lies a fact that a lot of chicken owners have either forgotten or never knew to start with....chickens are OMNIVORES! Whenever I have meat carcasses of any kind, they always get fed to the chickens. My chickens love the meat, the meat they pick off is an excellent source of protein, and it's an excellent boredom-breaker.

My chickens are carnivors. They only like corn as a veggie but ANY meat from canned tuna to lamb chops they are ALL over me. All five of them mauling me for whatever scrap of meat there is lol!

compleatly agree. with the store bought feed its hard to tell whats in it so people never think of what chickens naturally eat... I always feed my birds meat... sometimes I feed them raw meat that went bad. they eat it all... as for chickens killing other chickens & eating them YES, it happens, but ONLY if the birds are starving to death & the victome cant fight back. birds are not dumb. OH, & the color red instinctavly attracts them. so if a chicken in the pen is bleeding it will almost immeaditly be attacked by all the other birds pecking at the wound & some get carried away. they usually stop pecking when the bird goes limp. never herd of them eating the bird in that situation, any info???

This is so true. Just be careful and don't pass out in the chicken coop...lol. I feed mine anything that has to do with meat and they love it!!

Oh, and for the people who say it is wrong, IMO the animal is dead, it cant feel/see/etc. if you throw it away it will be eaten by bugs & birds & other animals anyway. If you throw it in a field or woods it will be eaten by something... why not feed it to our animals rather than feeding it to wild animals. this is JMO sorry if I offend anybody but its the circle of life....
