anyone feed wet feed?

From time to time my feeders will get wet from a blowing rain that will cake up in the feeder and clog it up. when I go in to clean out the wet mess I can flip out the clumps out in the pen and the girls will go crazy over the feed. It got me to thinking that if I wet the feed on purpose and put it in a pan instead of the feeders they might like it more.

Just wondering if anyone else has done this?

No I dont,heard its toxic,or just not good management.

I wouldnt want to eat:

wet steak
wet bread
wet cookies

Maybe as a treat you could give them a pan of wet food, and it would be fine if they ate it all right then. Otherwise, wet food can get rotten real quick and it's also STINKY!

That happens to me too. If it has only been a few hours I dump it and they go crazy. If it sits too long it smells and can't be that great for them.

If it smells it needs to be tossed. They can get very sick from moldy feed. They do like it, though, and I've done it occasionally for baby chicks as a treat, in very small quantities.

When I have a new hatch, I make a soupy gruel of the chick starter. Once they get the taste, I give them a damper mixture.. I never let it sit for more than an hour or so. it's easier for it to stay put while they learn to eat it and it's far less messy. after a few days, its business as usual

...Nearly every morning when the weather is below freezing, I mix hot water with mash and grain...and feed to my girls...they love it...and are usually lined up at the door waiting for me to arrive.

The only problem when feeding wet is that it ferments rather rapidly in the warm weather. As a kid we raised a lot of ducks for the restaurant trade. We always fed wet in the morning and followed up with dry feed later in the day once the AM feeding had been consumed.

I feed a damp feed with fresh sprouts in the AM. Only a small amount what they consume in an hour or two.

I met a old gamefowl farmer that only fed wet feed twice a day. I only use it as a treat every now and then though.
