Im tired of paying to get into the exotic sales just to sit through hours of crap and mis labled birds for something that might be usable. Would anyone want to start an Iowa chicken swap thread? I know I would certainly like to do that rather then go to sales.

Sure. I raise mostly Exhibition Standard Dark Cornish. I am working on getting another color variety probably WLR, maybe White if I can get my hands on some. I only have a few culls left from winter, mostly roos right now--nothing good for show. I will have a few young birds available later in the summer, and some of this years breeding birds. I prefer to sell hatching eggs than try to raise a bunch extra just in case someone wants to buy them later.

I will hopefully have some Doms available next year.

My sister is getting married an moving to Florida. Out of her birds I am keeping standard Black Ameraucanas, black split Ameraucanas, and Birchen, Brown Red, Silver blue Modern Game Bantams for her--so there should be some available a little later, we are just putting eggs in the incubator at the end of the week.

She is dispersing her Buckeye flock, her Black Copper Marans, and her Dutch bantams. Those birds are for sale now.

We also have some EE and a couple olive egger laying hens that we would consider letting go to a good home. They are very sweet girls, the free range during the day and roost in the barn at night.

I think that's about it for now!

I have no idea, thats why I thought someone else should start it LOL.. I think.. from what I know about it is lets say you have a Blue Orp Rooster and I have a Blue Orp hen and we want to swap, and say 10 other people want to.. we would all meet in a central local have lunch.. meet in person.. get to put a face with BYC names.. and swap birds.. Im not sure.. but thats what I get from it..

someone please step in and save me.. Im drowning.. how does it work?

RYU I could use a Rooster in your Dark Cornish and not interested in showing, just want to use him in one of my projects. Im trying to plump up my silkies.. don't laugh.. but ya.. I could use one Roo.

I would be interested in the Olive eggers too. Can you write me privatively and shoot me a price for them? My granddaughter and I both love going on an Easter egg hunt every weekend when she visits. I promise they would have a good home. My neighbors love my birds and bring them veggies everyday. I have a huge run (HUGE) for them and a isolated winter house as well thats right out my back door. They can't sneeze and I don't hear it. All my birds other then 3 EEs and 3 bantams are really young.. REALLY young.. so some that are laying would be so nice. Im getting 2 bantam eggs, 2 EE eggs one BR egg and one silkie egg a day.. I have no roo..

He is way to young. So ya.. they will have a good home and I have vet refrances if you would like. I have lived in the same house for 19yrs this fall, so Im not going anywhere.. and neither would they.

ryu, where are you located? I would be interested in your sisters buckeyes.
Iajewel, also not sure how it works, probably pick a date and location and go for it!
I have some wellies, and some in the bator, possibly some welsh harliquins depending on how many hatch, some turkeys, maybe a few ee's.

We are in SE Iowa, near Crawfordsville. I am a member of EIPA and work at the Burlington Swap. I will be at the next three for sure (May 2, June 13, July 11). I can bring birds there no problem. My sis is getting married so July-August is going to be nuts--I don't expect to get anything done.

As for how it works, I think we just update with what we have and if someone is interested make a deal. We could do a 'Chickenstock' too (where we all go to a location and bring what we have to buy/sell/trade).

PS if anyone is interested in joining the Eastern Iowa Poultry Assocoation--there is a great perk for joining this year (and hopefully following years!). Members who help work at the Burlington swaps are eligible to have their transportation, transportation of their birds, and hotel paid for to go to the APA National in Shawnee OK in December. You don't have to work all the swaps, work just 4 and 100% of those costs are paid!

We hope to do a trip like this every year. Crossroads 2011?, Ohio National?, NE Poultry Congress in MA?, Seaside Fanciers in CA?--Members vote where we go!

If you want more information, pm me your address and I will mail out a newsletter with the details.
