ANYONE FREE RANGE GREY OR RED JUNGLE FOWL?

It does not take much introgression into a population to mess up an adaptive allele complex. I am seeing that now with a bluegill project where pure wild stocks have different characteristics relavent to culture and those same characteristics are easily changed by hybrization even with the same species.

I would like to see non-Richardson wild Red Jungle Fowl from another area. If my understanding is correct, then Red Jungle Fowl of southeast Asia more important in the foundation of existing chickens than Red Jungle Fowl of India and possibly Pakistan.

American Games do not repressent a uniform breeding population. On whole the population has more in common with a hybrid swarm. Various amounts of Oriental / Indian have been introduced to the European game stock foundation of American Games causing major differences between strains or lines. My line appears to have limited Oriental influence. An important factor has been the selection process of free-range propogation that at least periodically has imposed pressure on genotypes not directly related to pit performance. It is the free-range selection that may be most important and possibly enhanced by residual Grey Jungle Fowl alleles.

I still want to see Grey Jungle Fowl in action.

Lunch is over.
