Anyone from CA order from Meyer?

Meyer is such a very good option but I would recommend you to try MyPetChicken. They are the best. Their chicks are guaranteed and healthy. Delivery little bit expensive but worthy 100%. Purebreed chicks. Bad thing, they are really popular and you need to place your order as soon as they are available otherwise everything will be sold out. Good luck

Haha...actually mypetchicken used Meyer hatchery. They're not their own hatchery, they're a middle man. If you order from them the box will say mypetchicken but you'll notice it is shipped from Polk, OH where Meyer is. Also, if you watch the movie on Meyer Hatchery's homepage you can see boxes labeled "MyPetChicken" in it. So using either works, but Meyer is slightly cheaper.

I am in central CA and have ordered from Meyer, they arrive in less then 24 hours. My last order hatched on a Monday and were in my hands before noon the next day. It was a small order so they shipped Express Mail, they went air mail into Sacramento then on a truck to my city po. All arrived very healthy and active.

I live in California as well..so cal to be exact..riverside county..I know the owner of a feed store WW feed and I have talked to the owner of a different feed store Dan's. They both order there chickens from out of state hatcheries...If they have problems with their chicks, they would change hatcheries...that being said, I buy my chicks from a local breeder..Chickens Galore..Russel vaccinates his chicks and has you bring them back to him so he can vaccinate them for free at 8 weeks..Free being relative as each chick is $6.00..His backyard hatchery will surprise you. It is very very clean and professionally run. He has large incubators and brooders.. He has many breeds including turkey's and ducks..Good clean well run operation and I would recommend him to anyone...He is expensive but he provides a good service...

I ordered from Oregon and also wondered if my chicks would make it such a long distance, plus, the weather here was only in the 50s. I am very happy to report that all my chicks showed up healthy, happy, and hungry and have been doing GREAT ever since.

I live in NC and I received 3 orders from Meyer Hatchery throughout last year. I would order more from them now, but I have too many chickens!

Their customer service is very friendly and helpful. The chicks I have are all great looking chickens now and I am getting a lot of eggs daily from my 21 chickens.

I will order from Meyer's again, but am waiting until next year when I need more layers.

I'm near Sacramento and my Meyer order will be here between July 22nd and the 24th. So far I've heard nothing but positive reviews and the two times I've had to contact customer service, they've been nothing but stellar. The feed store chicks (from Ideal) were not the quality I expect, I do have five pullets from them that are 13 weeks old. But I had decided to bring my flock up to 12 by ordering the Rare Layer Assortment from Meyer.

I live in San Diego and ordered chicks from Meyer Hatchery last year. They were shipped out on Monday morning and arrived on Wednesday morning. All were alive and peeping. One was a bit sluggish but seemed fine by the next day and they are all five laying an assortment of egg colors.

And I'm very excited because my second order from Meyer shipped today and I'm expecting it this Wednesday as well! Both times I've split an order with a friend or coworker so that the shipping cost is less. I bet you could find someone who would be interested in doing the same with you. There is a Facebook page "California Poultry People" which would probably be a good place to ask around if anyone is interested in sharing an order.

Good luck!

That's a great idea! I don't think I'll be ordering more chickens any time soon, and ALL of my friends (and husband!) think I'm crazy for even doing this, but good to know about the FB page just in case!

I was originally going to order from mypetchicken (I hadn't even heard of Meyer before finding this forum), but they are in Pennsylvania and Meyer is in Ohio and Ohio is slightly closer to me to I just figured even an hour or whatever difference in the flight might help so I chose Meyer. ;)

Generally, you have one post office assigned that all your mail is routed to, including your packages. You should be able to check with any of the POs near you to verify which one depending on your address. I live in the Los Angeles area and I too ordered from Meyer Hatchery. They shipped out on Monday and my chicks were delivered to my PO on Wednesday morning. I would definitely recommend you contact your PO. My PO had no idea what to do with live chicks. They were going to just put the chicks on the truck to deliver to my home. I actually went to the post office as well as called them on Tuesday (both morning and afternoon, since they get deliveries twice a day). In the end, they called me early Wed morning and told me to come around to the back as they weren't yet open. I debated on ordering from MyPetChicken versus Meyer Hatchery. In the end, I ordered from Meyer only because they had a 3 chick minimum versus the 4 from MyPetChicken for our zip code. It was my first year and I wasn't ready to commit to 4

They all arrived alive, one was a bit sluggish, but it's a very long trip from OH in a box. Overall, I was really happy with my Meyer hatchery purchase and would order from them again. Hope that helps.
