A friend just sent me a link on growing soldier fly maggots for chicken treats. It sounds pretty cool. Especially for a homeschooling family. I'm not finding a whole lot of pictures though of simple containers to grow them in. There's one you can buy, but it's $200!

If you grow them, what do you grow them in? How is it working out?

I'm thinking of building the bucket BSF house once spring gets here. I found some in my compost pile last summer and the girls loved them. But it wasn't easy hand-picking them from the pile.

I'm all over this, myself. A customer does this, and she fills bags with them when there are too many, to store in the freezer for Winter. 35% protein!

mmmmmmm-mmmm!!! GOOD!

I have plans to develop a colony this Spring for composting, feeding chickens and liquid fertilizing my future duckweed (and fathead minnow) "pond". The duckweed and minnows will be fed to the chickens as well.

Here's to future success!
