I decided, just for fun, after reading a few of the threads on here about people hatching eggs from Safeway to buy a dozen and try to hatch them. Just as an experiment. I bought the "cage free" eggs from Safeway but I wonder, are they fertile?? Anyone out there hatched Safeway's cage free eggs?

If they are fertile it will say so on the package, generally.

Cage free usually doesn't = fertile. They aren't going to pay to feed a rooster unless it's specifically to get fertile eggs.

Depending on your area, some 'mainstream' grocery stores do stock the fertile eggs. You can usually find them at healthfood stores/organic food stores too.

Good luck!

Find a local farmer and ask for a dozen fresh unfridgerated egg :)

Thats what I did last year. I asked my mail lady who on her route had barnyard chickens.

I went and got 2 dozen eggs to hatch just for fun.
I have no idea what each egg was
"I JUST TOOK ALL THE BIG BROWN ONES" :)
I let my daughter sell them she put up a sign chicks $3.00 each and she got enough money to buy a really good swim suit.
