Anyone hatching Dec 14th? Looking for hatching buddies for 1st hatch!

Well... three days since LD and no responses to whistling over here :'( I've tapped the plexiglass, whistled, cooed, chirped, talked to them. Nothing. They're completely quiet and unmoving every time I check on them. If they're still quiet when I get off work tonight, very clear they aren't going to hatch today. XP I'm trying to be patient but... eeeee hard to be D: especially when I can't get the humidity that high. The tray is full of water, along with four bottles of baby food containers full of water on every corner and I still mist inside the whole thing once a day through one of the vent holes. My humidity is up to 60% - without misting, 58% is it safe to open now at this time to try and add things to up the humidity or is that a very bad idea?

No, it's not that critical. Think like a chicken, do they stay on the eggs for 72+ hours while they're hatching? I don't think so!

Add very warm water to the baby food jars, that will bump up the humidity fast! What day did you set them, what time of day? Day 18 when you stopped turning should have been approx. the same time thereabout. Then 3-5 day thereafter depending on the heat level throughout incubation, if it was a little low, it will take longer. Think of it like slow cooking!

What day# is today?

Hi,

I got my eggs in the bator on Saturday night at 7. So, I am counting Sunday as day one. Is that right? Also, when the bator showed up, the turner was not with it. I have been calling them since Monday, I will let you know when I get a response. Anyway, I have been turning them three times a day. What day is the best to candle?

No, no, but I always read about people frothing at the mouth at people NOT to open the incubators after LD. I just wasn't sure if that was LD or just if they're hatching because usually when it's discussed it could mean either or. I'll try that and add warm water to the trays too. I set them on Nov. 19 around 11 am. I put them on lockdown on the 6th at 7:00 AM as I worked earlier in the day that day(with a late - after dark off time) and was more worried about an early hatch than a late one. The eggs very rarely got too cold compared to too hot. Which is why I'm so concerned. In fact, they only really got too cold for a substantial amount of time /after/ LD. This is why I say though that I'm defo being impatient with the poor things. They don't know it's the afternoon of their hatch date and they were set 21 days and an hour ago

But, at the same time I work in 30 mins and want to make sure they have a shot at the possibility of a successful hatch without me there.

EDIT: OMAHGAWDOHMAHGAWDOHMAHGAWD%^&7888 I went and chirped at them again again and VERY FAINTLY I HEAR "..chee" I think I'm hearing thingss so try again, frantically dancing from coos to chirps then i try whistling "...pi" OMAHGAWD OHMAHGAWD D: *fork in the garbage disposals*

I never really play by the rules but day 10 is the best time. I started checking mine by day 5 but I also have white eggs in this time and they're much easier to candle and see early results, brown eggs are more difficult. I bought a candler flashlight which allows me to place on top of the eggs, where the air sack is, while in the bator on the turner so I do not have to handle them to check. If you need to handle them just be sure your hands a real clean. Or use rubber/latex gloves, they're less likely to slip then too.

no, go ahead and add the water, just remove the jars you have now and place a small tupperware container of warm water, a quick exchange! Or more jars if you'd rather use those. Use a flashlight to scan the surface of the eggs from the window (if you have one) to check for subtle pips, the light will create a shadow to see it. Keep us posted!

Rin, I have to run into town for a bit but I'll be back in a couple of hours (my boys christmas program at school) I should be back after 3:00 MST

Remember....breath...breath... etc

it's all good!

I am excited for you Rin!! Keep us posted. If you were close enough I would come chick sit for you. LOL! Remember with humidity it is the surface size of the water that increases humidity, not the depth. I have heard of people placing a wet sponge in the bator for hatch too, but I have no experience with that. Be sure that camera is charged up and ready to go. We will be waiting for pics!

Question: My humidity got a little low and the two white eggs have larger air cells. I have increased the humidity again. What are the chances of their air cells going back to normal size? I go on LD Friday night, so I have time to get the humidity where I need it. Any thoughts?

I think the greater the air cell the better chance the chick will survive. It needs it to breath while attempting to break open the egg. The air cells in mine are growing larger with time, I believe it's part of the process. You don't need to bump up the humidity until LD. Good point on the humidity source, I've used tupperware bowls with a sponge or some waded up papertowels inside it (in case a chick fall in) it works well.
