Anyone hatching Dec 14th? Looking for hatching buddies for 1st hatch!

When the humidity rises (due to hatching) it can cause the reading on electronic thermometers to go a little wacky. I'm guessing that's what happened. Love the newly hatched chick!

my first try... a few weeks ago had the same result. Perfect babies but didnt make itout of the shell. It was horrible but I am trying again. Due to go into ld this Thursday. My humidity is the Iffy thing. May have the same thing this time. Sure hope not.

I don't know how you guys did it....but I am NOT gonna be able to open the ones that don't hatch. No way. I just think seeing them will make me so upset, I'd rather not look.

I've always said that I'm an ostrich. Sometimes I just do better with my head in the sand!

Ah, that could be the problem.

I open the one's that don't hatch so I can determine if its an incubator problem, or an egg problem. It's for educational purposes and to increase my hatch rates in the future.

I totally get the why in opening them. Just don't think I can yet. I had 2 I opened on day 12 that were clearly gone. I was so sad looking at their little bodies.

Personally I didn't think I ever could until it was a possibility and wanted to confirm death in that chick. Afterward someone suggested the others were either dead or dying and to help if I could. I merely confirmed the sad truth they were long since gone. They were all dead for about two days at least and based on smells and appearances died in varying stages at different times. The defective ones died before LD based on the fact they haven't turned yet. They were still fully developed though. Just... with skulls that curved like this - ( and one of the two had a missing eyelid/eye - think dried up fish eye. It's horrible, gruesome, made me cry hysterically... but it's nature and if I didn't I wouldn't of found out it could have been a breeding issue - not just humidity. So I'm attempting to correct both to try again. It broke my heart but if I didn't I would have purchased from the same breeder all over again and maybe just added more water to the trays for LD. This also taught me to heat the water a bit before adding it to my tray too so they increase humidity more efficiently :B and a few sponges to the tray perhaps. Before I was misting the inside through an air vent it worked but not well. Clearly.
