Day 17 :) I am still thinking I have 3 good ones, 1 iffy, and 4 No-Go's that were developing around day 6 and then quit on me. And 1 that never did anything that came out on day 6. I am so anxious to get to tomorrow to start lock down. The time has flown by so fast during this. I wish I had more property, I would be reloading the incubator right when these hatch :) This is fun. Do I leave eggs on their sides for lockdown or point up, point down?? advice for this stage?

Opinions vary on how to place them for lockdown. Many say put them on their side, that's how they'd naturally be under their mom most likely. Others say keep them propped up like you have them in the turner, because there will be less of a chance of them getting confused and pipping in the wrong end or getting stuck.

Me, I keep them upright. I take the trays out of my turner and put them flat on the floor of the incubator with the eggs sitting in them just like they would have been when turning.

It's been 1 day since I set 14 white leghorn, 16 silkie serama cross and 24 barred rock eggs I had a power outage early this morning and they got down to 88 but luckily it came back on I hope they are ok

Congratulations everyone on the hatches!!! I have a total of 2 in the brooder and one had pipped before I came to work today, hopefully she is all hatched when I get home in a couple hours :)
JohnDeere- You should be ok, mine went down around that temp and came back shortly, my eggs seem to be doing just fine. It takes a bit for the internal temp to reach a scary level of low so I wouldnt fret to much

i have been running an LG still air, with no turner. I sat them in an egg carton lid on their sides during incubation . i plan to take them out of carton lid tomorrow(if thats a good idea) and set them on side(or top, or bottom, if thats what you all suggest). I dont know what the turner setups look like or how the eggs sit when using one.

I am thinking also since from candling it looks like only 3 good ones and 1 iffy one, i will set one in each corner for lockdown so they have space. just trying to determing whats the best way to "set" them.
Also, while still in the incubator do I just let them walk on the mesh bottom without worrying about splayed legs? That reminds me, I still need to make a brooder box lol clocks-a-ticking lol

I only hatched once on the wire bottom and was not real happy about their tender tummies on the wire! I use the rubber no slip shelf liner now because I use it as a fluffer sometimes. It is inexpensive and even the feather footed chicklets get a good grip on it and you don't have to worry about their little umbilical cords getting torn or damaged on the wire
