Some people are so against trying to save them but if I think they stand a chance I can't just leave them to die. Wish I could take the little guy!!He's adorable!!

I'm attempting hatching for the first time ... bought one of the real cheap, economy incubators (it was about $20 from Stromberg's), and I've put in a mix of eggs from my Japanese Bantams and Barred Rocks. So far this little unit has kept the temperature at a pretty steady 100 degrees, and heats back up pretty quick after I open it to turn them. We'll see what happens on March 9! Hopefully at least one or two of the five I've put in will actually hatch!

Hi again, Everyone.

I've had 4 out of my 10 eggs hatch.

Two of them hatched yesterday (hatch day) and two today (Day 22). There are still 6 eggs in the incubator.

None of them have external pips? For those of you that have done this before, is it common (or even possible) for the eggs to hatch on three different days?????? I will mention that for the first 18 days, I was using an old Brower incubator that had extreme temperature variations. (hot and cold spots) I have no intention of removing the 6 eggs until late Day 23...and may even keep them in longer?

Any experience or advice would be appreciated.

Here is my first set up! I'm so excited to see my peeps March 6th!!!!! If anyone has any suggestions, I'd be happy to hear! Temp is at 100*f and humidity is 45, I'm trying to lower the humidity but its quite hard since its real humid here right now.

I have the same LG, I still use it because my new R-com only hold 20 eggs and well I'm an addict and like to have more than that sometimes, lol. It is also humid where I live, thatis why I have foud that dry incubation works better with the LG. I don't put any water in until lockdown and my humidity stays around 20-30% which is what you want for the first 18 days. Good luck!!

Yes if you have had temp variations they can hatch on all different days, it's happened to me! Can't wait to see pics!!! Congrats!!

2 of my 4 chicks have straddle/spraddle leg. They could move around pretty good, but their little legs would split to the side with every step. My husband helped me put little Band-Aid splints on their legs which they aren't too happy about. They can still stand and hobble a little with the band-aid, and they "roll" around doing unwanted somersaults too. It's pityful, but I think they'll get used to it as the right muscles or tendons strengthen. I added Sav-A-Chick (electolyte/Vit) to their water too. I'm so thankful for all the great advice here on BYC.
