Anyone HATCHING?!?!? Newbie's and addicts WELCOME!!!! Hatch Calendar page 1!!!!

He still has a layer on him that needs to come off, it's like a slimy membrane. But if he's not even moving at all I wouldn't try, it's probably too late. I'm so sorry!!

When I opened it up, this is what I found. The chick must have been upside down. There is still some yoke to the right side. The "pointy" thing turned out to be the bend in the leg/foot bone? (It's the rounded thing on the bottom/right of the chick.) I left the bottom of the shell intact -like a cradle for the baby. It still hasn't moved out of this position. Is it safe to say, that it's dead? I put it back in the incubator....maybe I need to take it out.

I hate to give up, but I don't have much hope about even this one now.

Those are just shiny, wet feathers...I already pealed the inner membrane completely off.

I just opened up all 6 eggs and did eggtopsies.

It appears that every one of them was upside down and the beak was NOT positioned toward the air cell. Yes, some were shrink wrapped...especially the ones with lopsided aircells, which must have grown even after I marked them on Day 18 before putting them in lockdown. I'm wondering if next time I should raise humidity on day 16 or 17? I'm thinking this because THATS the day they are supposed to turn their beak toward the aircell. If there isn't enough room at that point, they seemingly continue to develop but are unable to turn or pip.

Well, many lessons learned from this experience. Won't be doing it again for awhile.
I'm really glad these 4 were able to hatch out OK...now I can just focus on them since I emptied the 'bator!

Sooooooo i candled all my eggs today. Everyone of them are growing and are fertile. only one wasnt good. it had a blood line in it so i tossed it. i marked the ones i candled with a purple dot so i knew whoch ones i did and didnt do. all have a dot on them even tho u cant see the dots in the pic lol

I'm so bummed I just candled my lavender Orpington eggs that were drop kicked from NY and out of 18 eggs I thought I had 4 or 5 growing well blood rings on 2-3 of the eggs. I'll be lucky if 2 make it into lockdown.

Sorry to hear that. What day are these eggs on? Did you keep them in the incubator "just in case"? I kept some of mine in there until Day 24...(but that's just hopeful me because I'm a newbie!)

Silkymom, thank you for your encouragement along the way. Wow, what a stressful journey (incubating). I wasn't going to do this again soon (at least with shipped eggs). But, I just discovered a breeder in my area that has silkies!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might go take a look and see if they are SQ and healthy. Hmmmmmmmmm, I'm curious how a hatch of local eggs would go now!
