Can you sex polish chicks? I live in Ga aprox 45 min north of atlanta and I would love to place a female chick under my broody hen.

OK maybe I'm not saying this right. I guess I don't know the correct name but, what I'm looking for is what I have heard called "polish" chickens. They are crested black with white crests, buff, ect... ( Paduans)

No, you're saying it right. HappyHatch'en is just making funnies.

You supposedly can sex Polish at hatch by the shape of their crests (hens will have perfectly round poofs, roos will still have round poofs but they will be more flat/angled in the back). However, I've never been able to tell this way! And it would not be foolproof. You could also try feather sexing them (by their wing feathers), but this is also not foolproof. In a nutshell, it would be very hard to accurately sex a day-old Polish chick. You could make some guesses, but you would have to take your chances that you'd be getting a roo.

I apologize....I just had never heard of a Polish chicken....I grew up with a lot of people with Polish ancestry, thus a few jokes would be heard....sorry.

That's OK. I wasn't sure if I even had the right name for them either
