So in looking for a game cam (just started to search) anyone use one of the newer ones that use wifi or something to send a Pic to your phone?
I just was reading an article about one that sends a text to you phone.

WAY cool, would LOVE that !

Anyone ?

I realize this is an older thread. I have several game cameras on my property. My DH has been looking into Cellular Trail Cameras. I am content with my morning rounds to go out and swap out the memory cards to my cameras. I have some pointed at the coops from different angles and I check on the birds while I'm out swapping out the cards. Most nights when the predators roam here I do get them on camera. Just curious if anyone has tried any of the Cellular Trail Cameras.

I have 3 cell cams. Two Tactacam reveals, and a stealth cam fusion. I like the tactacams better. As long as the area your in gets a decent cell signal, your all set. Mine are Verizon cams.
I have mine in the middle of a 400a farm 6 miles from my house, and I get a notification on my phone when it takes a pic.
Data plans are relatively cheap. $5 A month for I think 250 pics, up too $20 a month for unlimited.
I only use mine during hunting season, so I get the unlimited for a few months, then suspended the service for the off season. The cams will work without a data plan like ordinary cams, and save the pic to the SD card.

He was also looking at WiFi cameras but we can't get WiFi out at the coops unless we can extend the signal out to there.
Cell cams don't need wifi. They run off the cell towers like your cell phone.

There are some pretty inexpensive wifi repeaters available that might work, however you most likely need electricity for both the cameras and the wifi repeaters.

If that's not practical, then the cellular cameras are probably your best route. Call around to your local pawn shops, sometimes they have them.

I realize that it is either a cell camera or WiFi camera. My coops are out quite away and I don't get WiFi out there. I can take my phone out there and I'm on the cell network but not WiFi. Just curious if anyone has used these types of cameras.

@cmom , do you go through the videos daily, or only when there's a problem? I'd love to be able to check on my birds during the day, and see what shows up at night, but I don't want to spend hours going through SD cards. I'm just starting to look for one, so excuse what is perhaps a silly question!

If your cell works out by the coop, a cell cam should also work depending on signal strength. I've never used a wifi cam, so can't comment on them.
Here a pic from one of my cell cams.
