i thought the older one was a pullet because she has been sitting on the other 10 chicks since they were a couple days old and she was 5 wks old mothering them. My children named her Big Mama but I look at the coloring and legs and she seems to match the cockerel not the pullets. Is it because they are younger or is it because she too is in fact a cockerel??? Im a first time chicken owner and got the big one from local feed store then ordered the other 10 chicks from the place the feed store orders and the lighter two were marked with red dot on heads. The next pic is of Big Mama and the pullets?
Thank you June junebuggena. I am new to all this and I thought they were darker and the males were lighter and she is light colored like the males and I am just worried because I have 11 chickens altogether and 2 for sure i know are going to be roosters then I got 2 silkies from a straight run and I'm hoping they are going to be hens because I don't wnt to have 2 get rid of any of them. As far as ive read having 1 maybe two roosters but 4 in a flock so small is not a good idea. Or will they get along if raised together?
Thank u. Im very new to this. These are our first chickens. But they are the most entertaining animals I've ever had! Maybe it's just the age difference then that she is the exact color as the boys? She will b 10 wks old tomorrow and they will b 5 wks old.
