I posted this on Raising Chicks, and got some great opinions, but I wanted to post this on the gender thread, since I didn’t realize there was one earlier. I bought some pullets from a home and garden store (a small business) who gets their chicks from Hoover’s hatchery. They only sell pullets, however I have a 2 week old australorp chick who has a darker comb than the other australorps. Like a lot darker. As I mentioned before, I only ordered hens. Is there anyway that Hoover’s had a mix up and I got a rooster? I know it’s probably a bit early to tell, but I’m just curious because I’ve heard of them mixing up before.
The first picture is of one of the other chicks, and the rest are of the suspected cockerel.

Nothing as yet with that. If the comb turns red and starts growing larger than the others with wattles, then you've got a roo. Currently no problems.

Also, sexing chicks at hatch isn't fool proof. Most breeds are 90% accurate. Some are more difficult and a 75% accuracy is considered good.
