Anyone have any experience with Chuckey Chickens????

I did not say they were not respectful, helpful, or caring. I would have considered buying from them based only on the two reviews they got from actual customers, but I really do find it creepy and weird that they show up the day following a post about them: not a week or a month later, but the very next day.

I might feel better if the OP had ever made another post in this thread after they PM'd. I would like to hear the OP's opinion on what transpired, even if it just, "they were nice and helpful".

And, as I said, it is just my opinion... you are certainly entitled to your own opinion.

Kikiriki, I completely disagree with your assessment. I purchased from them and have been to their facility and they are so incredibly helpful. It is more like a mom and pop operation that cares for each individual bird - it is not a huge hatchery by any stretch. They are VERY smart to see where they can personally answer questions that crop up. If I had a question about a company and they immediately responded, I would applaud their customer service. I think you've been dealing with places like Tractor Supply a little too long to know about great customer service.

By the way, if anyone is within driving distance of Chuckey's, I would highly recommend they do so. We live in the Asheville area and found that it took us a leisurely 2 hours to make the drive - we came back a lot faster with our new chicks. It is a spectacular drive along the river, through the mountains. Beautiful! And the birds and coops were so much fun. Next time we go, we are packing a picnic lunch to have along the stream that rims the property.

I agree Chuckey Chickens should have responded and I live in the next town away from them and visit them regularly I have purchased bantams from them that were amazing birds and they have some very beautiful birds and the guy does a good job
cleaning when I stop he is alway's working the owners are really nice people as well.

I'm kinda weirded out that Kikiriki was weirded out by a completely appropriate response. Why on earth would anyone find it strange that folks in the chicken business would check these forums regularly? Wouldn't it be more strange if they read a post from someone who wanted info and then ignored it?

You think it was appropriate, I think it was was weird. I explained fully why I thought it was weird, but since you failed to understand I'll try again.

The poster was not asking chucky chickens about themselves. If she had wanted to ask them about themselves she could have phoned and said, "hi, tell me about yourselves..." She was asking OTHERs for their experiences. And she has still not posted since they PM'd her. Coincidence? Could be. Or did it make her so uncomfortable she left? Could be that, too. And they may have found her post quickly, but the fast response gave the impression of them hanging about waiting for people to mention them.

I think if a company is going to engage in a forum as this comany does by posting sales and talking about general chicken stuff, they should not respond to questions about customer satisfaction for several reasons:

1. They are not customers and therefore have no customer satisfaction to comment upon.

2. Forums are where people go to share their experiences and that should not be impeded.

3. The person did not contact them directly and they should respect that.

4. They ruined an opportunity: They should sit back and read what people have to say to learn what they are doing well or where they need to improve: it is like a free customer survey, and the feedback (if allowed to flow unhampered) can be used to improve and enhance business practices. (for example, the OP could not find information on their site: that means the site needed to be modified).

As I said, they were getting good reviews from actual customers. The only negative response was about the way they advertise and on the difficulty in finding information on their website, both of which actually provided a chance for them to improve those things with that knowledge.

If they had not jumped in, maybe they could have learned more areas in which they could improve. Companies actually pay other companies to gather customer feedback. Amazon allows unimpeded customer comments. I always look at reviews before I buy a product from an online company because they do not have a local presence or reputation. In fact, this morning I elected not to buy a product because the reviews included many complaints about customer service. The only power we have as consumers is to share information so we can spend our money smartly.

So I stand by my assessment: it was freaky for the company to jump into a conversation of consumers.

I understand both points of view. That said, although I've never purchased from Chuckey Chickens, if they came down on their prices some, I probably would. They live right down the road from me and from what I can tell, have a gorgeous set up for all of their birds. I've found them to be very friendly when it comes to answering questions as well. I understand why they price their birds like they do, as we all know, it costs a LOT of money to care for chickens properly.....however, prices for birds like the buff laced brahmas have gone way down since they first came out and although I appreciate them sticking to their prices, I for one could never charge $100 per bird....even if the market dictated it. If I tried to get that much for mine, id never sell a single bird! Id be overrun with chickens and then wouldn't be able to care for them the way in which they deserve. I havent been to their site in a while so they could have dropped their prices some since last I visited. I still think Chuckey Chickens has a fantastic operation though and just from what I've seen, id recommend people feel comfortable buying from them. They aren't a hatchery, they are a working farm trying to offset some of the expense of caring for their animals. Just my 2 cents!

Animaladdictions, that was a really nice post and useful information. There seems to be a consensus that chucky chickens has a wonderful setup. It is good see such positive feedback for how chickens are raised and treated. I won't be adding any chickens anytime soon, but if I were I would consider buying from them. For me chickens are more a source of eggs than a hobby. I wouldn't show and can't have a rooster to start a breeding program, so I'll just be sticking with my 3 gold sex links...the balance between feed costs and egg production keeps it affordable.

Hi Everybody - Thanks for your interest in Chuckey Chickens. Unfortunately, we have had to close our operations in Chuckey. We weren't able to get the help we needed with the ranch so we have relocated our chicken operations to Statesville, NC, where we are tending our flock ourselves, full-time. Thanks to all our loyal customers. We will be starting up sales again in the spring with the same set-up, coops and gear, but we are now on 25 acres of pasture and woodlands so the birds have even more room to run around. If anyone is interested, we have a new website which you can access at the following URL:

They almost certainly have a google alert set up to notify them if their name is mentioned on any page indexed by that search engine.-- that would easily account for timing of their reply. Nothing weird or creepy at all -- most businesses do that.
