Anyone have experience with these companys?

You really, really, really do not need a book or plans that are specifically for a chicken coop.

Smart thing to do is, go to your library and get out books that have plans and step-by-step instructions for constructing a SHED. (Like people have in their yards, yer basic backyard storage shed, you know? If you happen across a book on building childrens' playhouses, that'll work too).

Looking at SHED plans gives you a much higher diversity of options to choose from. The instructions are also generally a whale of a lot better.

All that's needed to convert a shed to a coop is a) add more ventilation, including some that'll be good in wintertime (see my ventilation page, link below), b) cut a pophole door for the chickens, preferably a foot or so above the floor so bedding doesn't all get tracked out; and c) install a roost. Ta da, your "shed" is now a wonderful coop

I used a set of plans I bought online at http://www.thegardencoop.com. The plans worked out very well. There are plenty of pics and tips. Mine is about twice as big as the one in teh plans, but the conversions were fairly easy. I have 11 hens living in a coop big enough for 25.

The coop is great to have in a neighborhood setting as it looks very nice and is so big and airy that there's never any of the "coop smell."
