Anyone have Oregon Mini Geese from Holderread?

I have a male that is paired with a mixed female. I was told she was half mini pilgrim and 1/2 hatchery embden.. So I bought her just for him a budy. They live at a friend of mines so I should get some pics next time I go over there! He is such a cool little goose! She has a 10 acre olive orchard and him and the mixed female fly threw the trees and come to the front when I go over there! I have never seen geese fly quite like these guys!

I talked with Dave Holderread on the phone and ordered a pair. You probably wont see goslings being shipped in the mail due to their need for food and water shortly after hatching. Unlike other domestic geese that can be easily shipped since they don't need food or water for two days the Oregon Mini needed to be moved from the incubator to the brooder rather quickly. Dave commented that they need to eat and drink sooner after hatching than any other domestic goose that he has raised.

Geese need green grass thats the major part of their diet, they should be fed waterfowl feed which is specially balanced for ducks and geese. Feed made for other animals such as rabbits doesnt have what geese need and may have something they shouldnt have at all.

I would say they weigh around 7-8 lbs each. The male has an attitude, like a lot of small dogs have. He will show off and act tough, but he backs down if you blink at him! The girls are very sweet. They can fly, and I haven't clipped their wings because I get such a kick out of their flying out of the barn when released. That's all they attempt because they are so bonded to the Sebs who don't fly. They are sex-linked like Pilgrims (which are prob in their genetic background). The males are white or are splashes and the females are gray and white. I got mine as adults last Feb., and they became tame fairly quickly when they figured out I was their provider of food and treats! I hope to have a few goslings in the Spring.

Do they usually bite? What size are they?

I believe Rabbit chow is too high in salt among other things. We don't have waterfowl feed here , the only time I saw some was for 90$ a bag..LOL I feed Purina flock starter, sprinkle some rolled oats on it and increase the amount of oats , and get them outside at least part of the day as soon as you can to get greens.(also give cut greens sprinkled in food or water ). Then I feed a mix of Alphafa/ Oat pellet (for horses), some scratch, and laying pellets at 14/15% in winter, and some year round if needed. Geese don't need the higher protein chickens get....they are pasture animals, but need tender vegetation...they can starve on old dried out grasses. (oh, and some of my horses hay to nibble on in winter.)

This thread is from 14 years ago and the last reply was 9 years ago so you may not get an answer although I do wish you luck! I do see that Holderread is still selling them so if all else fails you could try them. Although I know they’re only doing adult birds only now and it’s expensive.
