Anyone have partridge as pets?

I posted the article in the other thread, but I'll post it here, too... everything you need to know about chukars.

UC Davis article on raising chukars

My box was just on the ground. They will not lay until the season after they are born. They lay them anywhere they please, and I collect them every day so they don't get rained on, eaten, or muddy. I haven't let any of my birds (besides chickens) set on their own eggs yet.

Mine did great during 2 weeks of -35F weather... no losses, and no extra heat.

I have two cameras. One is a point and shoot Panasonic Lumix FZ18. It takes great close ups and is small enough to go with me on my big hikes and hunts etc. I then have a Canon 40D which is a more professional grade type SLR and I have a really nice big lens. I think I was about 50 - 50 on these pics.

Would anyone care to post a picture or two of their chukars nests. I would like to get some ideas before I start my own. I just finished making up some new ones for my chickens, 14 X 14. I know these are to big for the chukars, so what size are yours?

Nest? What nest?

Mine lay wherever they please... usually right in the middle of the run. But they do have a little area between two tree-roots that they sort of turned into a nest, and they like to lay there sometimes.

yeah my girl lays in the chicken nest box. so I think if you provided a lets say 10 by 10 box for them they you lay there.... I did notice that she lays in the same spot in the comunity nest box (and I think that is inches) maybe I should leave them and see if she will sit on them?

Pretty much ditto Ms AK. They tend to always make their nests under the best cover. Little dust bowl on the ground. Sometimes they squeeze out an egg anywhere they please. I found one on the roost this spring precariously balanced.
