What kind of temperment do they have?
I know they super dark eggs- but how is fertility?
Hoping they aren't hard to hatch like me breeds.
Pics would be great if anyone wants to post!

I had both wheaton and partridge Penedesencas. Got rid of them before the year was over.

They were too flighty and nervous. They body slam themselves silly every time you go in the coop. Even when you tried to "tame" them but their instinct outweight tameness any time of the day.

Fertility was good but the egg laying ratio for the year is somewhere between 120 to 180 on best hens. They would not bred for productivity. The eggs are darker than Marans.

Easy to hatch out like any other chick.

Oh that's too funny! I'm bidding on some eggs- now I hope I don't win!

Pene's are the MOST skittish breed I own/have ever owned, and I have had soooo many, including other Mediteranean breeds, Asian breeds, and Game Birds. The will literally knock themselves stupid to get away from me in the pen - and I have scars from fixing their automatic waterer, just from them "taking flight" or "startling" while I was on the ground inside.

I know they super dark eggs- but how is fertility?

Oh, their eggs are sooo nice and consistently pretty. I am seeing only a small percentage of hatch rate from people I have sent the eggs to either with Express or Flat Rate shipping, and I have tried a multitude of packaging methods and markings. Then again, it could be my sole rooster and not the eggs?

Hoping they aren't hard to hatch like me breeds.

If I remember later, I can try to post pics from home? I have some around here on BYC....I am not sending any eggs out due to the heat. I lost 2 hens recently due to the heat and egg issues as well, so I am letting the broody pen sit on the eggs in the box. We'll see?
Good luck with Penedesenca's....very interesting birds, I must say!

my lone partridge girl is what I would have called "flighty" but she doesn't go banging around when I'm around her. She just won't let herself be picked up and if you do catch her and hold her she fights the whole time to get free, but she's tolerates my intrustion into the hen yard or hen house fine, just from a bit further than her orp, maran, red star flock mates. She lays a medium size egg and not as much as my orps, but not far behind. She is a beautiful girl though and my son's favorite- at least for now- Jodi's lavender rooster is fast becoming his favorite. We'll see.... Keystonepaul

Here are a couple of pics of 2 of Tina's Penes I hatched 3 days ago. Her packaging is great.I think the Post Office is pretty rough on them for sure, but I've never gotten a broken egg from Tina. I think their great free rangers. I have 1- 5 month old Black. She's a little skidish about being picked up,but after that she loves her neck rubbed. To me their no worse than the Partrige Rocks I had. They were very antisocial! The Penes do lay beautiful eggs.

I have a black, crele, wheaton penedesenca, and white empordanesas. They are skitish, but I adore them. They lay pretty well and the eggs are nice and dark. The chicks are hardy and easy to hatch.
