Anyone have plans for a shut off float for a waterer?

Toilet valve is too big. Swamp cooler floats are about $5, but since the inlet is for 1/4" copper tube you'll need a few more dollars to plumb between the barrels and your trough.

Where do I get one of these and is that the actual name, "Swamp cooler float"?

I am bumping this on my own, I was at Lowe's today and looked through the plumbing section and didn't find anything like this, any ideas where I can locate one? TSC maybe? and do I ask for a "Swamp Cooler Float"?

Sorry, I didn't look at where you are from, it is a regional item. A "swamp cooler" is an evaporative cooler. In the southwest where the humidity is low, these are used to cool a home instead of refrigerated air. The float controls the level of water in a sump, this water is pumped over large pads and air is pulled through these pads by a blower into the house. The evaporation of the water cools the air around 20 degrees. The lower the humidity, the better the evaporation, the better the cooling effect, thus you don't find them in more humid areas of the country.

You can find the float valves online though, just do a search:
