anyone have silkie/GSL mix?

I am getting ready to introduce my 16 week old silkies (8 hens one roo) to my 22 week GSL hens, now my question is, can/ will the silkie roo breed my GSL? and if so, what would i get if i took and put a few in a bator? a golden sexlink silkie?? lol has anyone done this?? any one have pics?? lol i just realized this today and wondered what the results would be lol

well, i put them all together tonite.. they all seemed ok cept the roo was jumping at ever sound lol poor guy!! hopefuly they do as well tomorrow

i mainly was just wondering if the size difference would matter... silkies are a bit smaller than my gsls lol

Your Silkie Rooster can and will mate with the Sex Links. If would be a very bad idea to allow a Sex Link roo run with the Silkie hens. The smaller rooster can get the job done with a larger hen but the other way around, the hens are easily injured.

As for the results of a cross, well, the colour of your silkies may help with the answer, but you will definitely not get a sex-link.

First generation would not have silkie feathers. Dark skin, 5 toes and walnut comb are likely, though.

LOL, I was afraid you'd say white. That is one colour that is completely unpredictable when bred to anythign other than white. White is an OFF switch that prevents the display of colours and patterns that are genetically present. What you will do by breeding him to a non-white is discover at least some of the colours & patterns his white is hiding. Just don;t expect a different white to carry the same hidden genes.

lol okies thanks!! i have blue and buff babies that are about a week old.. maybe one of them will be a roo.. if soo the roo will be going to a new home!
