I'm thinking of getting some but am very curious about the temperment of the drakes. It's a go for the ducks but not sure about the drake...

I'm getting some this year, they are my firsts. I never thought about the drakes temperment. I hope someone replies for you, I'm curious to now. Sorry, I'm not any help. Good luck.

I have them. They are great. My drake did get a little ornery when spring first hit, but I just picked him up and carried him around a bit to remind him who the boss is. No problem

He eats out of my hand, keeps a watch out while the girls are grazing, and looks very handsome.

I used to have a khaki drake who was a jerk.

My drake is great... He takes care of Daisy and follows me around when he thinks I have treats.. He also likes to run after me and peck the back of my leg. I stop and he backs off and looks at me. I start walking and he's running behind me again.. LOL.. Last night when I went to put them up for the night.. He was under foot he was so excited to be getting his mazuri.. I picked him up and carried him the rest of the way to night pen.. Put him in and daisy walked up the ramp by herself.. Stanley also will eat from my hand. daisy will too

Well, so far so good. I just don't want to end up with a situation like you'd get with geese during breeding season or roosters during any season. I guess of those three poultry, ducks are the least to worry about since they don't have spurs and they aren't big like geese who I understand can do some minor damage to limbs

I welcome MORE WH stories!

Tweak was sneaking up on me when I wasn't looking and grabbing my pant leg. This was his way of trying to chase me away from HIS girls

I knew he was trying to be a good protector and I hope I didn't hurt his feelings too much when I laughed at him!

Here he is....

I just got back in the house from putting Daisy and Stanley up.. they had come from the backyard cross the deck to under car port looking for me.. ( they wanted their night food) Stanley was under foot again wanting his food. I had him in one hand ( under arm) and food bowl in the other and off we went to night pen.. I fix them mazuri, oat groats, a little wheat, rabbit pellets and hand full of dry cat food twice a day.. They love the Iams cat food. I will proably have to cut out the cat food here soon when it gets hot.. They also like their mazuri.. They also get a hand full of black oil sunflower seeds floated in water a couple times a week..
