As you can tell I am definetly ready for spring !!! I've been looking through hatchery catalogs and saw what they call weeder geese . They are supposed to eat the weeds in your garden and leave the plants alone . Just wondering if anyone has heard of these , or if anyone has any . Sounds too good to be true.....but would be great if they actually worked !We have a 20'x40' garden and weeding it is a full weekend job every other week ! Any input would be great !

Weeder geese are not a breed of geese. All geese will weed. The weeder geese package is a mix lot of breeds and breed hybreds or muts.

I would suggest doing some reading on geese before buying for some are more aggressive than others with people.

having had geese in past, be prepared for some things.

1) geese walk and poop, eat and poop, or just poop.

2) geese will eat weeds & other plants as well. They would be good in strawberry patchs, etc but not gardens.

3) Geese like to talk and pester.

4) Most hatcheries call their extra goslings "weeder" geese as breed is not specified and all eat greens.

I have a 4 Toulouse geese . Have to agree with seedcorn - important to know they poop...poop...poop. My Toulouse like to sample our berrys - they are not great weeders but great grazers. I enjoy them as pets despite the poop and I enjoy their chatty behavior - have had no trouble with any serious agression - that's not to say they don't put on a good show - especially when sitting on nest or have new young ones.
