There is a virus going around.. my daughter and I call it the dizzy virus... this is the second time we have had it in the last 8 months... it lasts for a few days to a few weeks and then it goes away....
i get it all the time .. so does my mom.. doc said it can come with age.. there are little things like stones in your ear canal that move when your head moves.. sometimes the don't move and you get dizzy.. like getting out of bed from laying to sitting .. dipping your head to your feet and looking up.. i can get it for weeks at a time or sometimes just a small amount for a couple of days.. there is no way i am climbing up ladders or things like that anymore .. just in case.. getting older bites the big one
Horseshoe - yes, exactly. I researched it and found a page about it, yet none of the ENT docs he's seen locally had ever heard of it! Ended our cruising experiences, that's for sure!
You've probally just got an inner ear infection. I have vertigo everyday. Mine is hereditary. Nothing helps it, not Meclizine, not even those new patches.
My doc called it Meniers disease, put me on steroids... I went from 130lbs to 250 lbs after 2 years on them... Guess what? Still dizzy, now I'm fat too!
You need to google Labrynthitis. It is VERY common after viral infections, and there seems to be one particular virus that is making the rounds that especially leads to labrynthitis. It seems very likely you have this given that it is more pronounced upon waking and changing positions. It will go away in a few days or so.
Thank you all for your thoughts! I have been taking antibiotics since yesterday morning and as of last night my ear started making funny noises and draining. I am most certain it was the culprit because so far this morning the severity of the vertigo has been minimul. I have several days worth of the meds left and am going to continue with them until I see the doctor.. Thank you all again!!!
I had vertigo really bad a few years ago. I couldn't walk, couldn't read, couldn't even move without throwing up. It was horrible! I ended up on meclizine for about a year before it cleared up for the most part. The neurologist I saw said that everyone has little crystals in their ears and that sometimes one can be dislodged and fall into the wrong part of the ear causing vertigo. After a while, the crystal gets reabsorbed and the vertigo goes away. I am still more prone to getting dizzy now than I used to be though.
I have Meniere's disease. Hopefully, you do not. You can read about it on the Shea Ear Clinic site in Memphis, TN. If you continue to have problems with vertigo from any cause, I would not hesitate to make the trip to the Shea Clinic. After seeing two local ENT's, I made the five our drive to Shea in Memphis. The woman checking in ahead of me was from Hollywood, CA and the man checking in behind me was from the UK. I am very thankful for the results he provided me.
I suffer from vertigo and have for the better part of about 7 years now. It was mild in the beginning but has progressively gotten worse as time has gone on. I was on a medication for it, but it wasn't doing anything for it, so I stopped taking it. I think my doctor was using me as a guinea pig anyway. I have some days where it is mild and I can get by, but then I have some days where the whole room is spinning and I feel like I am on a tilt-a-whirl, and I have to stay sitting or laying down til the ride stops, if you get my meaning. For me, everything using tilts, leans, or spins to the right, and I end up staggering and/or falling in that direction. I took a bad fall in my living room in '08, hit a side table and nearly broke my wrist. My poor mother and kids had to pick me up off the floor. I about scared them half ot death! My doctor attributed my vertigo primarily to hearing loss and cranial pressure. I suffered a massive ear infection when I was ten that my mother didn't take me to the doctor for until after I had a sky high temp and my jaw had locked, and I suffered hearing loss as a result. Then, when I was 14 I was attacked by a bully after school one day and hit so hard in my right ear that my ear drum was partially perforated, and I suffered more hearing loss as a result. Top that with the deafness that my family has (and that I also inherited), and constant ringing in the ears, and I was like an open invitation for vertigo. If my sinues get congested, my vertigo does get really bad. And it's always bad for me in the dark. I have fallen down steps, staggered into walls, fallen out of chairs, and more in the dark. When I take showers now, I keep a firm grasp on the metal bar because I have fallen in the shower before too. I don't currently have insurance, but once I do I plan to go back and see if there are any new, and possibly better, medications on the market to treat vertigo. I know how rough it is living with it. That constant feeling of being drunk is hard to deal with. Take it easy though when it's acting up real bad on you. I'd hate to see you get hurt. Good luck and God Bless!
I have had a few Heart-Attacks...some felt like FIRE in my chest.......others just pressure....but, the last one had NO PAIN..just unbelievable dizziness !!! I knew what it was..and I felt that IF I passed out...I would die.
I had 2 that day...the same way..the Hospital put a stent in my artery.
Dizziness is something to pay close attention to..It is also a sign of STROKE.
When this stuff occurs..seek medical attention right away !!!
