i am trying to find an estimate of cost. i have asked around and i have gotten prices ranging from $10ft - $20ft. this is something i want to do ourselves to save money. we want a 6ft privacy fence and our back yard is 200ft long (each side totaling 400ft) and 100ft wide. has anyone done something close to these measurements?

Im right there with you on this one. I just made my measurements yesterday. I have a total of 120 feet That i plan to do myself, using the premade panels from homedepot or lowes. They range in price from 40-100$ I even found some 40$ vinyl panels on sale. the vinyl is 6x6 and the wood is usually 6x8. for my 120 feet im looking at the cheapest price if done by myself to come out at 1500$ so your 10-20$ ft doesnt seem to far off to me. I am only doing to privacy fence on the front of my back yard. the rest which is slighlty larger than your area will be done with hogwire to signf. cut down on costs.
Good luck with your project. keep us up to date.

we did a few years ago...it depends on what you are using for materials

pressure treated

Cedar

wood composite

ect...

make sure you have a gas auger and quick dry cement it will make your job a lot easier

i will keep you up to date. i need 6 ft all around to keep the chickens in and so our neighbors dog won't see our hens free ranging in our yard. a total of $5000-$7500 still seems to be a good bit out of our price range.

which wood is cheapest?

usually pressure treated but then it is treated with all kinds of chemicals to prevent rot and break down.

I have used pressure treated for years with no problems but it is not the greener environmentally friendly way to go

I cant even start to give you pricing cause I am in canada and it would not be the same as where you are

I'll be putting privacy fencing around a few area of the new coop set-up. Treated 6x8 panels were about $40 each according to online research. DH will do some real-world research at Lowe's & "Homey" today, though.

Treated isn't my first choice, but it will last. We won't put it right up against the coop runs, but set it back a little, leaving a lawn-mower-sized walkway.

We used treated 4x4 posts and hung 2x4's between them and used cedar planks for the fence. We did a lot, but only as paydays allowed. The neighbor split the cost with us, which helped immensely.

We also made a covered area off the coop the same way. I will see if I can dig up the pic and I will post it.

This is the porch half done. We eventually boarded off the open side, but you can see what we did.
