Anyone in San Diego Country Estates interested in trying to change the HOA rule against keeping chic

We are currently looking at buying property here and I was checking to see if they allowed chickens. All I can say is WOW! I CANNOT believe a rural area like SDCE and with so much agriculture around Ramona that this little community is not allowing such a thing. Especially since San Diego city is allowing it. The sustainability movement is here, and it's getting bigger. Back in the 50's the government used to put articles in Women's magazines trying to talk people into back yard chickens. Why is the HOA not listening to the people in their community enough to even vote on it? They don't have enough people in support of it? I don't believe that!! And if it is true, is this because most fear speaking up by being reported for some other infraction? Is this community really sticklers on some of the ridiculous rules? No trucks! No garages open! Come on! My kids play in and out of our garage on the weekends. Really?!

If this is the case, I am very worried about purchasing property here. And I am sure most others would be wary of doing so too. I hope the HOA realizes that they are causing people to fear buying here. It is such a lovely community and I am sure Mr. Watt's vision of this community didn't include the white little trucks making people's lives miserable each and every day. We all want to live in a lovely community.. with neighbors taking care of their yards and no junk laying around. But to complain about chickens? About weeds? The chickens will take care of the weeds, folks! Problem solved!

Wish they would let people live the lives they wish to live in PEACE and HARMONY with others AND the land and with lots of fresh eggs! I will also be present at those meetings if we do choose to buy, so I'd love to meet any and all folks in support of this!

Yeah, I stayed in estates for 3.5 yrs and sold it (I'm an agent) and moved to Lakeside, where I have chickens, peafowl, turkeys, guinea hen and beef cows. There is a LOT of support among homeowners in the estates to change the rules, and if you email me I'll hook you up to someone who lives there and is in the group I started to change the rules. I still work in the estates, and think it's beautiful, but the HOA makes it too hard if you're a homesteader who wants to raise animals.

I think properties are slightly more reasonable because it is far out, harder to commute, not necessarily because of the chicken rules at all. But HOA communities in general keep many folks from moving into them.

I know this last post was a couple years ago, but did ya'll ever have any luck changing the CC&Rs in San Diego Country Estates of Ramona? Do they still prohibit chickens or even dwarf goats for that matter?
