Anyone Interested in a 2017/18 Emu Hatch Along?

Thank you!! I'm glad I ended up asking, and didn't just go with what I knew with chickens. Though I had to assume there would be a difference between the two, chicken and emu! I'm stressing but have to remind myself it's only day 50 I'm learning to be patient with this one, lol.

Felicity and her consort, Groestl Emu, are just beginning to exhibit the behaviour that indicates they will fight to secure the house-clearing and environs for themselves, to mate and incubate. Egg-laying still about 14 weeks away; hatching on the first day of spring

How's it going with the little one? I haven't seen movement in any of mine and one started to smell, and that was a dud. I still haven't seen much movement and my youngest are day 36. I decided to float test them and one was wiggling slightly!

I set my final three I’ve gotten this season about 10 days ago. Still have a long haul ahead yet.

On a side note, I received the first egg out of the first hatch of quail out of the incubator this season.

It didn't make it.... It had great movement, then nothing. On day 53 it was wiggling like crazy and though it was a couple days past when I thought it would hatch I left it alone, thinking the wiggling was a good sign. The next day (54) when I took it out no wiggle, and the egg went cold. I decided to crack it open and there was no movement. No signs of a pip or anything, I honestly don't know what happened.

That's exciting to hear you have some wiggles! I ended up purchasing 3 more eggs and I am hoping to get a chick or two from them. I had my hopes up too much that I would have a chick since the last one was so close.

Oh wow, I'm so so sorry!! That must have been devastating, I'm so sorry to hear. Sadly, I've heard of this happening to some and it's so heartbreaking to hear, especially after all the effort. I'm not sure what happens either, and it makes me a little worried. I'm very glad you got some more eggs and please let us know your adventures with those! Oh wow, I'm so so sorry!! That must have been devastating, I'm so sorry to hear. Sadly, I've heard of this happening to some and it's so heartbreaking to hear, especially after all the effort. I'm not sure what happens either, and it makes me a little worried. I'm very glad you got some more eggs and please let us know your adventures with those! I can at least say I learned a valuable lesson, never put all your faith in just one egg! Especially if it takes over 50 days if you have to start over You were totally right getting multiple right off the bat. I'll definitely keep this updated with my progress!

Thanks for the support! Incubating can be such a joy, but definitely has it's share of loses as well. It's much harder when they are so close too!! Here's to round 2

That’s certainly correct, start with multiple eggs if you are able to. We began with two this hatching season. All was well until just after the hatching of number one. She was beautiful!! But, something just didn’t seem right. We saw an experienced ratite vet and he confirmed there were some slight genetic anomalies. Then number two hatched, ah what a beauty! But inevitably number one passed. That second chick is fab-oh!!!

Since that event, we set an additional three eggs. We are hedging our bets here looking for one or maybe two other chicks. Everyone keep your fingers crossed, please!!!

Knowing chances are slim to none, my 3 emu eggs arrived yesterday after a long journey and after few hours rest and weights taken they are in the incubator! Wish me luck
