You can start making wine any time, there is no righht season, since you can make wine from any fruit or juice available, the method your mom used is the basic way, you can do it that way or buy few extra things that will help the wine to have a better flavor and better quality, like an airlock instead of a balloon, which is only $2 and still use her glass carboys (jugs), it is a good hobby and very rewarding, but let me tell you, not for impatients...I havent made wine yet, but I found these recipes that I might give a whirl. When I was young my mother made wine from our grape grove. She used small neck gallon jugs and put a balloon over the top. As I remember there was a lot of sediment in the bottom. I think she took a few shortcuts. I thought I might start with these. What do you think? Do they look reasonable? It's the right season for these two beginner recipes. A few years ago I put up peaches. However, I didn't use the cling free (a bit mushy) Well I'll tell ya, I had the best peach daiquiris all winter long. I hid those blessed quarts of peaches from the rest of the family and became a closet lush.
