I have 7 chickens total right now, but I am thinking that about 4 are roosters. Where I live, I am not allowed to have roosters, so I am giving them to my friend that lives out of city limits ,and they are allowed to have chickens. So I am thinking about ordering 10 pullets. Does anyone know a good hatchery to order chickens from?

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

I would recommend Meyer Hatchery, Murray McMurray Hatchery and MyPetChicken. I've never ordered chickens but I've heard great things from all these places. Good luck to you! And good luck with your 7 current chickens!

Welcome to BYC! I really like Cackle Hatchery, but they have a minimum of 20 or 25, I can't remember. You can order 10 chicks from Ideal Poultry and Meyer Hatchery (that I know of) but I've never ordered from them.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. I've ordered chicks on a number of occasions from four different hatcheries, Murray McMurray, Cackle Hatchery, Dunlap Hatchery, and Ideal Poultry, and have been happy with the birds and service of all four of them. Dunlap is my personal favorite. It's a family run hatchery (somewhat smaller than the other three) and the folks there are very friendly and helpful. Furthermore, it's the only one of the four that I've never lost a chick from in shipping. However, my suggestion is to order from whichever hatchery is closest to you. That way the chicks will have less distance to travel through the mail. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Whichever hatchery you decide to order from, good luck in getting your pullets.

If you post on your state thread, you may find chicken folks in your area, and not have to have birds shipped to you. You could even get to see, before you buy. I prefer breeders to hatcheries any day of the week.
