i have been curious for a few years if the stock out of mcmurray is any good i've heard good and bad. but i am wanting some good breeding stock japenese bantams to start a project of mine that i've been wanting to start which is to get a different color variation but still a good conformation in the birds. if you have purchased any japenese bantams from mcmurray please let me know how good the quality is of the birds. pictures would be great

I know you asked about japanese bantams, but, I got 20 Silver Gray Dorking chicks from McMurray 2 weeks ago. Are all of them going to turn out SOP? Probably not. Most of them (so far) do have the correct leg color and the feathering coming in looks pretty close.

I would definitely find a breeder either locally or from this site. I've been disappointed in the quality of my birds as soon as they got some feathers.

That's a "light brahma" on the right, doesn't exactly look like the picture of their nice catalog.

I'll take more pictures tomorrow, but there's a lot of little things. Like my New Hampshire reds have no black specks on their neck/shoulder, etc.. Idk, I did get a couple I like, but their nowhere near show quality IMO and I don't even show chickens.

I have bought from McMurtry several times and have been very pleased with them. I got 70 chicks from them in April. I lost a few but the others are growing like crazy. Each time I had a question it was promptly answered. I'm looking for some lavender Orpington chicks or grown hens. Does anyone know a breeder or have any to sale?? :/

@mrstomcat I know a local guy, I got 2 but lost one to cocci. I am going to get a few more from him. Where are you?

Hi caitanni, thanks for responding. I have asked several times if anyone had or knew of someone. I have spend several hours on the Internet looking for maybe 3 lavender orpingtons and a couple of welsummer hens. I never gotten any answers. Although I've been a member for a couple of years I don't understand much of the saying like "new egg" or "out of the brooder". I usually just read. I live in Conroe , Texas which is about 40 miles north of Houston. I don't mind traveling if it isn't to far. I don't know how to find people on here that has what I want. I've been looking for hours at hatcheries but I don't want 25 chicks. Just a few. Please let me know how to find anyone who has any or where to look to find people on this site that has chickens for sale. :) thanks

mrstomcat i live in kentucky and there is a guy down in tn on craigslist that raises them and he is willing to ship eggs i don't remember how much they are because i haven't seen him renew his post on there but he does post every spring hope that helps a little

PapaBrooder out of Redding, CA, has eggs for sale. You might ask if he ships chicks.
