DOes anyone know about any chickens that lay very dark brown eggs? I want to know whether or not they are common.

Welsummers as well! They are more common and are supposedly great layers. Mine have great personalities (though a bit shy), but are only 18 weeks old, so they're a bit young to be laying. A few more weeks and I will have my first dark brown egg!!!

ANyone heard of a Penedescena? or something like that? ARe those really rare? I would like to try and find one.

This is the best online chicken/egg/breed info site I know of to get general ideas from: http://www.ithaca.edu/staff/jhenderson/chooks/chooks.html , after you look over the general things you can get from the chart, you can research the specific breeds that interest you.

Marans can and do lay nice dark eggs and have gotten very popular in the last couple years, and there are many claims made about them, and some people will sell you birds or hatching eggs that they swear are high quality Marans, but do your research, as in everything else, if something sounds too good to be true, it may be just that, too good to be true. (there's also plenty of totally honest people too, just had to get my warning in though!) ... I'll step down off my soapbox now,
