ANyone know good dark brown egg layers?

Dark egg layers can't lay an egg every day and keep the dark color, so generally, they are not like a production layer. Takes time to "paint" an egg. Welsummers lay a deep terra cotta colored egg. I have one girl whose egg is like that and the other Wellie's egg is a few shades lighter and very speckled, but a pretty egg nonetheless. I personally don't like the looks of the Marans I've seen, and with the inflated costs of acquiring those, I like the Welsummer for my dark egg layer, though some of my Delawares lay an egg almost as dark.

My welsummers lay pretty regularly and the color is just a beautiful dark terracotta brown. What I really like about them is how calm and well behaved they are though.

I have a Black Copper Marans Cockerel. Sweetest thing. He loves to lay on his back in my lap while snoozing. He also loves to perch on my shoulder and sleep. He will sit down on the couch and watch TV for hours. He will come to me when his name is called. He is definitely a good bird. Very nice to his pullets. I spotted him sleeping in a nest box with one of the pullets with his wing over her

He came from a very very dark egg. So for a dark egg layer, I would go with a Black Copper Marans

You watch TV with your chicken?? That is a funny picture. Mine always poo after I bring them in for baths. I can't imagine having one on my couch. My silkies do come to their names though. People who don't have chickens don't believe me. They may have little brains but they know their names and they puff all up and cock their heads when I call their names.
