Hello all,

I went to the livestock auction yesterday and picked up some goats. I got a Pygmy Nannie and her 3 day old kid, what I was told is a Boer Nannie kid and an unknown.

Here are some pictures.

This is Sunny. I'm not sure how old she is. I tried to bottle feed her just in case she was just taken from her Mom but she didn't really want it. She is eating regular goat feed. I was told she is a boer but I don't know the different breeds yet.

This is Spice and her kid Sugar.

This is Sugar. She was born on 7/18.

This is Peanut Butter. I don't know what breed he is. Anyone know?

I have them in isolation from the sheep. Peanut Butter has a cough so I bought some terramycin. I'm going to start them on that until the vet can come out and look at them.

I had never been to a livestock auction before. I was SHOCKED at the condition of some of the animals... mainly the sheep. There were many sheep with prolapses, one had a tumor which I thought at first was her udder and many had injured or broken legs. Some of the goats look like they had been starved. It was so sad.

that is why i am scared to go to a auction. i would want to buy the animals that looked neglected and injured!

1st one is a Boer, pretty underweight, I'd say. They're a meat breed and she should a lot wider in the back.

And Peanutbutter I would say is a Nubian.

The Pygmies look in pretty good condition. They all probably need to be wormed and I'd put the younger two on a medicated grow and finish(Cocci prevention) grain. You never know what they might be carrying.

Poor babies. Yay for you for rescuing them!

The only two auction houses I've been to, it's pretty rare to see animals in such poor condition. But they are all small ones, where everyone knows everyone.

The first one looks just like our little Boar goat They are a meat goat and get rather large. They are very sweet natured

Sunny is certainly a Boer, or at least a Boer cross, but she is very thin.

She looks just like my Fudge, who is also a Boer cross. (She's crossed with Angora, so she gets longer hair)

Your peanut butter is almost certainly a nubian because my neighbors raise those, and Ive have to take a few loose ones back to them and they looked like him.
