Anyone know what breed this is??

I got this sweet chick out of the "rare breed pullet" bin at the mercantile. Does anyone know what breed she would be? She is aprox. 5 weeks old.

She looks like a Production Red ( or hatchery quality Rhode Island Red), not a rare breed though.

That's what I thought too, but I wasn't sure since it was supposed to be a rare breed.

Hmmm, ok. Her feathers are definitely not solid red, they are multi colored...I'm not sure if you can see that in the pictures...should I put up some more? Or is that still typical for a production red?

Production Reds are said to be a mix between a Rhode Island Red and. New Hampshire Red, most hatcheries however mix in their own breeds. It is also believed that hatcheries breed in Leghorns to increase egg production.

That's great! I had never heard of production reds before so I am very thankful for the knowledge you are sharing! It fascinates me to learn about the breeds and their genetics.
