Anyone know what the average resting heart rate should be?

There can be alot of factors regarding an average heart rate. If you have been sleeping, your resting HR may be under 60 . If you are a serious athlete, again, resting HR may be quite a bit lower.

What you need is just to take it three days in a row (upon waking) average them out, this is part of the formulation for a target HR for exercise. Average is average for you. Normal range is....... 60-100

cool link, it gives you a general idea. If you have hypertension or tens of millions of other health issues, it is just that , a general idea.

If you are doing this for Curves, they want to be able to plug YOUR average into a table to figure out what your target HR is for safely exercising within your appropriate cardiac range. Best of luck, I loved Curves, wish I had one closer

eta, this is from The Mayo Clinic for target HR for exercising

For vigorous exercise, aim for a target heart rate of 70 to 85 percent of your maximum heart rate (MHR). Your MHR (roughly calculated as 220 minus your age) is the upper limit of what your cardiovascular system can handle during physical activity.

These numbers are estimates that provide an average value. Many people have a higher or lower MHR, sometimes by as much as 15 to 20 beats per minute. Disagreement exists on how to most accurately estimate your MHR and what percentage range to target.

They need YOUR baseline to calculate this safely and accurately
