Anyone Know What This Is?

My first guess was that it was a Buff O but the dark barring on the wing nixes that idea. Buffs can have some slight darker yellow barring on their wings when they get their first feathers but nothing that dark.

Thanks everyone for their input. I do believe the ome I thought was a Cochin is a Light Brahma. That's actually what I found the first time when we first got the chicks and I completely forgot :/

I'm super new at this and my sister, while good with the other breeds she has was having just as difficult a time as I was with these chicks, lol.

We will just have to wait and see for sure once they are old enough.

Oh and as for the black one with the comb, the two California Whites my sister has ended up with large combs as well. It really confused us, but they're most definitely hens.

Thanks again! :)

Edit: Also, thanks for going easy on me. Sometimes I feel like I've done my research well and then it turns out I haven't and those who really know what's up make me feel like crud.

It's not the size of the comb but the redness that is indicating that's a boy. Pullets don't start to turn red in the comb till they are almost ready to lay eggs, regardless of breed. A red comb at just a few weeks old is a sure sign you've got a boy.

Ooh! Good to know, thanks :) I can't remember when the white ones as youngsters. For these little guys right now it seems like every time I go over there they're vastly different. I'm at my sister's house a few times a week, lol.

Hey - Just want to say I hope you won't get discouraged when posters disagree with your initial thoughts or point out something you might have missed. Try to just chalk it up to "part of the learning process" and move on. I figure every time we learn something new - even if it is because we were "wrong" first - we become a bit more knowledgable. Which has to be a good thing! :hugs:love

Of course ^_^

I am always happy to admit when I was wrong and learn something knew, especially when I know I'm dealing with plenty of people who *do* know what they're talking about :)
