Anyone know what this is?

This little guy showed up at my house. It has all the characteristics of a quail but it doesn’t look like any quail that I’ve ever raised.

Hard to tell from the pic... that doesn't look like a quail head to me but I am no expert...

Looks like a coturnix quail to me.

I used to raise Coturnix. It looks nothing like them. His beak is bigger and he’s super dark.

This is as far as I’ve gotten. He looks very bobwhite-ish. I’ve had him about two weeks now. Today another one showed up and now they are both gone. I’m pretty sure it was his mate.

I agree the head looks a bit off for coturnix....could it be a bobwhite x coturnix?? I’ve heard they can breed but offspring is sterile

It looks like my Bobs but are colored kinda like my Coturnix.

I bet it is a "Wood Quail"

I raise coturnix. The bird pictured has a beak unlike those in my flock. It seems 'fatter' both side to side and top to bottom... not as slender. This bird does have what I call 'rosetta' type markings similar to some of my quail. My quail have light feet, not dark as the bird pictured. So... I did a google search and the nearest I came to a bird that seems similar to me is called a "black breasted wood quail", scientific name Odontophorus leucolaemus. I found an image of a male of this species at the following website, https://www.hbw.com/ibc/photo/black...dontophorus-leucolaemus/male-trail-front-view and have attached the image as well, below.

I can envision that a female of this species would look much like the bird in your photograph, what do you think?

Either a wood quail or a Tennessee Red quail. Not a real clear pic.
