Anyone know where to get silkie chicks?

I am looking to safely obtain 5-7 one-day old silkie chicks (white or lavender) straight run. I prefer to pick up but might be open to shipping.... had a bad experience with chick shipping in the past.

We currently live in Tucson, AZ but I had chicks shipped to San Diego in the past and had some dead on arrival and others dying after having 15 of them shipped during temperate weather (1 was smashed and trampled). I understand the need to have more chicks shipped in larger numbers but I feel that 5-7 chicks would be best for our family for me to ensure they all get optimal care. Needless to say, I want to avoid shipping chicks if possible unless anyone knows of something I'm missing (like maybe I bought from a bad breeder?)

Welcome to BYC! I would try posting this in your state thread to see if you get any local hits. @BlueBaby is the only member I can think of off hand that lives in AZ, maybe they can help.

Hi, I'm here in AZ., but I only do the larger breed's. If you wouldn't mind making a trip up to Mesa, there is a breeder that often advertises when she has some Silkie's available on Craigslist.
