The city is trying to pass an ordinance to "allow" chickens in residential zoning districts... With a limit of 6 birds per half acre. The problem here is twofold - 1.) Most "residential" lots are .18 acres, meaning that most people would only be allowed to have TWO chickens. 2.) The city doesn't currently prohibit poultry, and there are noise/odor ordinances that would prohibit anything (chickens, humans, etc.) from creating a disturbance.
The City Council is going to be meeting again on the final wording of the ordinance, and if anyone is close by (or even better, in the city), I would appreciate getting some support for this cause.
Thanks!
