Anyone make their own scratch?

Black oils dont have a stripe on them. Con-Oils are smaller, like a black oil, but have a few stripes (these are a cross between oil and confection) and the big ones with strpies that youre used to seeing at the gas station are confection.

the scratch i bought had rolled (cracked) corn, milo and wheat. not sure if it has anything else but i dont think it does. it is sold as chicken scratch. ive seen a few whole kernals of corn in it, but not enough to get excited about.

i throw down a handful of grit once a week to help them out.

ive considered making my own but i thought the pre-made stuff might have some additives (minerals, etc) added that a homemade mix wouldnt have and the chickens would need or benefit from.

if you live near an elevator, they probably have spilled grain laying around that you might be able to clean up for them. around here, this time of year there is spilled wheat on the sides of the road way from harvest and the grain trucks coming to the elevators.

I mix my own scratch - 50/50 whole oats & black oil sunflower seeds
This is convenient for me as I feed the same grains to my horses.

If you have a feedstore near you you can buy in bulk - I pay around $9 for 50# of oats and a little more for the BOSS.
