Anyone making plans for Spring?

Spring planning is the only way we survive winter I swear. Me and mom pour over catalogs and make list after list. We are getting trays ready for tomato plants, keep sniffing the lemons growing in the heated greenhouse and praying spring gets here faster so we can get started. Going to do meat chickens. Going to buy a steer calf. Going to have baby goats being born. More fruit trees and a couple more elderberry bushes. Mom is charting out new areas to clear that she can plant up. I am marking spots that we might put the new herb bed. Then its back to catalogs again.

Heather it sounds lovely!

I want a big fat flock of Buff Orps.  Out of all the breeds we have had over the years, I love them the most.  They are lovable, have attitude, produce well.

Debit, I haven't ever had buff Orps. Maybe I will get a couple and put them in my layer flock. My favorite is Welsummer. Every year I want to get more, I had roo and a few hens, then 2 years ago a dog decimated my flock, I lost so many birds. But I got hatching eggs last year, but none of the roos were what I was looking for, so on the lookout again this year. :)

I just got a plant catalogue in the mail, so that must mean spring is on it's way!

My mom and I usually plant a veggie garden, so I'm sure we will do that again this year. Recently, we passed the 4-H club the both of us used to run on to new leaders and decided not to be superintendents at the fair for poultry or horticulture this year, so we should have lots of extra time to do things for ourselves this spring/summer!

I originally had some plans to order pullet chicks (EEs and Turkens were top of my list) and I was going to keep a few and sell the rest off throughout the summer. I may still do that, but I recently found out I was accepted to Vet school and will hopefully be leaving in August for that. There is a possible internship I may do in the summer, so if I do that, I won't really be able to do anything chicken-wise this year. I do have a lot of pullets that should lay come Spring though, so I am looking forward to that. Last summer/fall we hardly got any eggs!

I always look forward to Spring though, mostly just for the warmer weather!

This is my first yr with chickens!

I am getting 2 Dominiques, and 2 buffs! I am also redoing the yard and planting lots of veggies and some fruits.

Doing raised gardens because you can't dig an inch without hitting a freaking rock!!!

I gots da spring fever pretty bad lol

I am getting more fruiting things.Re-doing garden beds so each has only 1 or 2 items. I just ordered seeds for my mum for her b-day.Was suprised bakers creek was already sold out of some things.Order early!

I was going to get chickens but the ones I have don't give me eggs, and the kids don't want me killing them. What is the point? They are costing me a lot.Bummer because I wanted to get some bantams.

I might continue digging my pond. I lost steam on it last summer.Yard floods so I wanted to make a dry river bed to a pond or bog of some sorts.

Main thing is making many organised beds.Move some bamboo and mischantis(sp) to block neighbor views. I might plant a floweing bed by the road for people to enjoy. I forget what humming birds like, but I always saw them on my purple flowering butterfly bush.

This is my first year here at me new hom.e, and I honestly have no idea about rocks, I probably should be concerned since I am right by the Flint Hills. You are going to love chickens, they are very addictive and so much fun to watch

Goodness, you have some great plans! How old are your chickens? They may start laying again once it warms up.

Good to know about Baker's. I didn't even think about that. Sigh.....

I was looking at bamboo, but they are pretty expensive from what I saw. I decided I would do some sunflowers until I can get the bamboo. Hummingbirds love butterfly bushes! I was reading up and they are pretty easy to propagate, so later this year I will be working on that to get some for next year. :)

Yes, I went through about 10 catalogs the other day, marking them with what I want.

I hadn't thought of moon vines, I will have to look at them.

I was looking at Jungs and Shumways...I think they are the same company, and Shumways is much cheaper! Same items and item numbers.

Thanks!!! You too!

I would advise against moon flower.. the seeds are poisonous.

As soon as the ground thaws we are putting up a fence to keep the goats away from the house, and what is left of my landscaping!!
I think we'll also try to put in a deck this year.

I need to build a shelter/deck for the goats out in their new pasture area and we'll keep making plans for the barn we also need to build..

We're starting our first bee hive this spring - really excited about that!!

Then there's the garden, and fruit trees that I want to plant as well.... Busy busy busy!

So much to do, so little time!
