Well...unfortunately, Mr. Muffin has decided to start going bad...

He is now 17 weeks old and has been quite calm up until about three days ago. Suddenly, he has decided that he needs to chase and try to attack my 4 and 5 yo kids. Like, he runs up behind them when they are not looking and flaps and scratches at the backs of their legs. Naturally, they run because they don't want to get scratched. I mean, they are just kids. I kicked him day before yesterday when he ran up behind my son. and my husband hit him with a 2 x 4 (it wasn't a horrible beating or anything. Husband just happened to be working on the new coop and had a scrap of wood in his hand) yesterday when he made a bee-line straight for my daughter.

Today I didn't let the chickens out when we were in the yard, Husband was working on the coop. I was pulling weeds and the kids were happily playing in the sandbox. I didn't have time to watch the rooster, so the chickens didn't get to come out. Now I feel bad for the girls, as they are pretty sweet, and it wasn't really fair that they didn't get to free range, but I didn't think I could get them out without Mr. Muffin coming out.

Anyway, Muffin is a spectacular looking rooster and is really good to his girls. I just don't have the time to train him. that is not his fault, it's mine. That is why we paid for sexed pullets in the first place, and we ended up with a rooster anyway. He is so fine looking, and is very good with doing the rooster thing, I just hate to send him to the stew pot.

Anybody want to take him?

I would love to have him... but not sure if I need a second Roo...

He is almost the same age as my pullets and I bought an older Roo(1 1/2 yrs old) because I was afraid i'd never find one... but he is wonderful so i'd hate to loose him to... BLAH!!
