Anyone only have 1 goat

I know that there are people who keep only one goat, but I don't think it's a great idea. Goats are herd animals and do much better with other goats around. I also know that some dogs are fine with goats, but in general, I don't trust a dog around my goats. I have one dog who would probably be perfectly fine with my goats and would never harm a hair on their heads but I still won't leave him with them alone. The only dog I would ever trust around my goats would be a trained LGD.

I have only one goat, but he lives with our sheep and llamas. We originally had 2, but the 2nd suffered from Short-Man Syndrome (he was a pygmy) and was nasty to the sheep and the other goat, so we had to find him a new home.

I agree. Goats are herd animals and are happiest with another goat.
I'm not sure what kinds of dogs you have but keep in mind that dogs are predators and goats are prey. If you have more than one dog then it is a pack and a goat left alone with a dog pack could be in danger.

I only have 1 goat and he is perfectly fine by himself! We had a nanny, then 2 kids also, gave the nanny and one kid away and the other died, so he has just been alone ever since. But does really well. he can see our horses across the driveway and we play with him daily. Some people said I have too much time on my hands because I trained him to jump up onto a stump to get a treat and all four feet have to be on the stump! lol I have to admit I do spend alot of time with him, so I guess I am his herd. Hubby and I had a disagreement about putting him in with the dogs, but we have a full blooded german shepard and a shepard/rottie mix.... so I win, he will not be put in with the dogs! I think it would depend on the size of the goat and the breed of the dogs. Just my opinion.

I have only one goat too. She was rescue. Once I said I would take her they drove her from SC immediatly to PA. I have a pretty good idea why they wanted to get rid of her so bad. She is huge and has a really hard time being nice. Her horns are huge and she knows how to use them. I am afraid that the horses will hurt her so she lives with the dogs. She established the fact that she is boss with all of my dogs really quick. She loves to be with them and thinks she is a dog too. She spends most of her time with them and the rest as close to people as she can get. She would probably move in the house if I let her. They all do great together.
