They have a $25.oo limit, which is ok.
I wish to order about 10 birds, but I guess they add in extra males for shipping.
I hope not too many and they can't tell you what they are either...
I tried calling, but the sales rep kept telling me to hold on (I did ask later if they were really busy and she said "no, not really") I couldn't get any clear answers and I was rushed... So I said I'd call back later.
Just that they are the only Hatchery that has the breed I'm looking for now. If I order elsewhere there won't be any avail. till Nov. and it gets really cold here by then...
Concerned!
Any advice? Please?

i've never had any problems and i found them wildly helpful! if they say they will call you back they will - or just send them an email and ask to be contacted.

***this isnt unusual at all - you know its to keep them warm, right? you need a certain critical mass to keep the babies warm during shipment - especially way up there to maine from tx.

good luck!

Thanks...
Yes, that's what I figured...for warmth.
But, she said..not so much, more just to keep them from bouncing around during shipping. Which I understand too.
Maybe I caught her in the middle of something? Perhaps she was learning? Cause she wasn't helpfull at all?? I'll call back tonight.

I have ordered from them three times now and they were very helpful for me also. Maybe you caught her at a bad time. Usually I have had no problems. And every chick so far was VERY healthy and I never lost one so far. I got both bantams and standard chicks

I had a wonderful experience with Ideal. Professional, and accommodating. Their babies were excellent, healthy and well represented on the web page. I drove down and picked them up. They have a first class facility. You won't be disappointed in them.

I second everything said here. I got a batch of ameraucanas from them, and while one of them didn't make it, I think that was more due to heat exhaustion than anything else (It was over 100 deg. when they got here). The rest were very healthy, and laid huge, dark eggs. As others have said, they were very helpful before and after the purchase, both on the phone and through e-mail. They even offered to replace the chick that didn't make it (though I passed on the offer). I'm pretty sure it was Shannon I was working with as well.

I ordered from them in Early March and have been super-pleased. I ordered 12 chicks and received 7 extras. All of which were RIR roos. Since its warmer now, you may not get too many packing peanuts. I wasn't sure about ordering them all the way from TX to Indiana, but I was pleased and they all have done great

Dh found someone from work to take the roos, once they were large enough to be integrated into the flock. 2 other roos were given away on Craigslist. They were both gone the next day

HTH!

I ordered from them in February - 10 pullets of different breeds (2 each breed) and got 6 males for warmth in the shipment. It was cold then but all the chicks arrived alive and safe. I don't know why the person you spoke to wasn't helpful - they've always been helpful to me - I think calling back later is a good idea - perhaps you'll get someone more helpful. Good luck!
