I play the piano. I took lessons from 1st grade all the way thru high school. I as the chorus accompianist, and played in the orchestra.
I took a few years (15) off from playing, other than to just play a little bit when at my parents. (my father always enjoyed hearing me play) and a couple years ago my SIL found out that I played and I got to be rehearsal pianist for the musical Carousel which she directed. I was so proud of myself for learning that - the Carousel Waltz in particular. I did a Christmas show for the victims of Hurricane Charlie (Cat 5 when it hit) which devastated the towns south and east of mine. It was a blast. I was so nervous.
I was told by a piano store that the books they have now it is easier for people to learn than they were when I was growing up.
I have a beautiful grand piano (a dream come true for me) - a 1917 Mason and Hamlin, that came from the Ringling School.
By all means learn to play. And enjoy it.
I'm all for doing those things you've always wanted to.
