Anyone raise chickens in apartments or dorms?

If you don't own the apartment/dorm, make sure the landlord/rules say it is ok. If not, you could get into trouble... and then they'll always watch you. Living with neighbors limits what you can do. I lived in the dorms for 4 years and kept all my chickens at home. I'm now renting for grad school further away, downsized my animals so my parents don't have to maintain as many, and only brought the ones allowed by the landlord. It's not worth the risk if you don't have the jurisdiction to make the decisions on what you can or cannot keep as a pet if you have to share space with others. Dorms are very tight living quarters... even if you can afford to live in a "single".

Also remember in the dorms that you'll likely have a room mate. Chickens create a lot of dander and that is really hard on anyone that has allergies. And in such a small space it can be tough to keep allergens at bay.

Thanks everyone for your opinions and tips!
